Fantasy mixed media experiment

mixed media ocean fantasy

This was fun. I started adding paint here and there and the fantasy animals started to appear. I just went with whatever presented itself. It ended up being a scene from the ocean...a bit of made up sea creatures. I will use this as a card background for a greeting card at some point. I will add ocean themed embellishments.

Happy painting!

Seahorse graphite drawing

Sea Horse
5 x 7 graphite on paper
I enjoyed drawing this last night. I haven't been creating much art lately. Life sometimes gets in the way of my artistic endeavors. But I can find time at night while watching TV. I like to draw while I am watching TV, not sure why, just do.  This is a graphite drawing on white drawing paper. My reference photo was a post card I found at a local store here at the beach. It was a photo, and I exaggerated the features on the sea horse a lot to give it a funky look.

walking on the beach in January

Waves and bare feet in January
color pencil and watercolor on paper
8.5" x 5.5"

Last week my daughters and granddaughter came to visit me in my new beach house. It was so great to see them and they picked the perfect weekend to come as the temperature went up to 70 degrees. We went to the beach and it was so warm, we took off our shoes, coats and socks and wandered all around the beach in our bare feet at the end of January! The water was freezing but the sand, wind and sky was warm and blue and wonderful. I snapped a picture of my granddaughter as she stood and looked at the waves. She was laughing and in awe. She loved it and it warmed my heart so much. I drew this yesterday using my photo as a reference. I wanted to catch the awe she felt looking at the big waves. She is four and everything still amazes her. We should all spend time with a four year old to renew our sense of wonder at this great big beautiful world in which we live.

ocean waves oil

Today I set up a still life to do a pear but I just wasn't feeling the love....so I painted this from a photo instead. I can see where painting the same thing over and over is a good idea- practice, practice....I did enjoy using all the blues...found it very soothing. I listened to Pandora Relaxation Channel and painted the the day away and made chicken noodle soup. A good day.
