Smith Island cake

A new restaurant opened up near me called The Mermaid Galley. The owner is from Smith Island, MD. Her grandparents owned a restaurant on Smith Island and she is using their original recipes, including, Smith Island Cake. This case is the State Cake of Maryland. It is quite famous on Delmarva. 

I went to this place with my painting friends and we shared this piece of cake. YUM. I took a photo of it to paint as it was too hot to paint, as we were sitting in the sun outside. I like how this turned out.
