moonglow watercolor

I have a new color of watercolor- Daniel Smith Moonglow. It is a dark moody purple, pink. It granulates beautifully and I plan on experimenting more to learn more about it. Above is a quick sketch I did for the #30x30DirectWatercolor2019 online challenge. I also added glitter paint on top that I made awhile back. It's a beautiful blue glitter- very fine. On a photo it shows up as white snow. I will use this for a greeting card.

This started out as a picture of my sister that was taken in France during our latest trip to France. But as the painting progressed, I realized it looked more like my mom (my sister looks so much like my mom.) It was amazing to me, she sort of spilled out on the page, like she was waiting for me to find her. It was very emotional for me, as my mom passed away in 1995. I think this is the first time I had such an emotional reaction to one of my own paintings. I painted this in 10 minutes.

#30x30DirectWatercolor2019 Day 1

#30x30DirectWatercolor2019 is a challenge to paint 30 paintings in 30 days. I decided to give it a go.

My goals are to paint some of the gazillion reference photos I take with my phone thinking, "I want to paint that!".   Another goal is to be loose.  I will be using both transparent wc and gouache. This challenge is about QUANTITY over QUALITY. 

Day1 I have hundreds of photos of blooming poppies from several trips. I love poppies, always have. Once I saw them blooming in the world, I fell in love.  This one below is from my latest trip to France- I just got home a week ago. The poppies were blooming all over Provence.
