sunset oil painting

Sunset on Edisto Beach, SC
5" x 7"   oil on board

For several years my sisters and I (and various other family members) have traveled down to SC to an 'other world' place called Edisto Island. We started going there because of family history as we were do family research. When we visited this remote sea island, we fell in love and started coming each October for vacations.

This is a sunset on the Edisto River Inlet. We would come here at sunset to take pictures and see an amazing light show. Each day was very different, depending on clouds. The more clouds, the better the sunset!  Anyway, this is the view. The wonderful thing about Edisto is that it is an island, so there is a sunrise over the ocean and a sunset. The best of both worlds!

some recent paintings

These are all done from the same reference photo. I played around with the colors on each, trying to keep the values the same. The Edisto Marshes are one of my favorite places on this planet. I feel so connected to them. My heart feels a little fuller there. It's other worldly in many ways.

(If you read my other blog you may recognize these as I recently posted these there. But I've started this new blog dedicated to pastels and so I will post all that I posted from other blog here.)
